Jenny Bulcraig: Project Manager
I have had few people ask this question recently. Pretty much does what it says on the tin.
As an individual client, it probably doesn’t cross your mind how many individual clients freshSPRING has. On average, our team are working on a large number of different projects (about 40), all at different stages and requiring a plethora of skills.
This doesn’t mean to say that we play favourites in terms of our clients depending on their project criteria (we don’t), but it does mean that we are almost always busy and have to prioritise through a number of factors.
This is where my role comes in. As Nick is the director of the company, it’s a lot to hold in his mind the details of all of these projects at once. So, to help Nick to have some brain-relief, I create systems and records to help him and the rest of the team keep track of the projects to the best of our ability.
I have been doing this in a more serious capacity for about 6 months now, and naturally this takes some trial and error. It also requires me to learn how the team and our clients communicate best, which is no small feat given that altogether we’re probably talking about 50 people at any given time.
I am often in charge of a handful of projects which may need a bit of extra TLC, while keeping an eye on the rest of the projects to be sure that they are moving forward as well as we are able to facilitate as a company. This sometimes can mean chasing team or clients for information or content, or just making sure that the team is recognising and celebrating the achievement of completing projects (we have a Board of YAY in the office which lists each project we have completed). I am also required to provide objectivity on unusual or delicate situations which may disrupt the flow of a project – but I am happy to say that this does not occur too often.
I am often present in client and finance meetings to support Nick, and have attended networking events representing freshSPRING to the business community. Being fairly gregarious in my outlook, I enjoy meeting new people – so this works out well!
As a few extra details – I’m from Birmingham, my favourite colour is teal, my favourite book is The Time Traveller’s Wife and I am currently riding endorphins from attending my ‘Pound’ exercise class (which is a mixture of pilates, aerobics and drumming)!
