However blogs can be a very effective tool for websites, especially for customer interaction and Search Engines. It is the format, you don’t have to call it a ‘blog’.

Ideally this will be on your site, not separate as it helps to grow the size and hence search relevancy of your site. Unless of course it is a blog, then use blogger.com (Google’s site) or WordPress.org.
Subjects can be anything eg. your view on your area of expertise. They allow expression and interaction without needing full copywriting as that isn’t the user expectation.
