There are many unsung heroes who quietly and continually serve to make their communities a better place. XLP is a charity that does just that with young people in London boroughs.
XLP was started by Patrick Regan, a youthworker whose heart was broken and wanted to make a difference; inspired by his faith in God. With a team of 30 they now reach over 1,200 kids every week in 7 boroughs. That includes two busses, a portable studio, arts showcases, lunch and after-school clubs, tutoring, etc.
Most importantly though it’s not about statistics but that they genuinely know each of those kids by name as they try to inspire them to see their potential, overcome their experiences and have restored self esteem. These are great kids but have never been affirmed at home to those who have witnessed friends die in gangs and much more besides.
XLP meet them where they are at, in schools, on estates, live in the same communities and have ongoing relationships earned through trust by being there every day, through thick and thin. They’ve just celebrated 15 years last night and by God’s grace they keep making a difference for another 15 and beyond.
We’re honoured to have been part of that (Nick was on staff prior to freshSPRING as a fundraising and communications officer) and just want to shout out congratulations and praise God for all that He has done through them.
If you’ve ever wondered how to make a difference to young people that gets to the root of the problem then check out XLP’s website and help them do just that.
