What is Christian Web Design?

We realise it’s an odd concept, it’s not as if the website that is loaded says ‘Hello, I’m a Christian design’ or is full of imagery like the cross. Perhaps a bigger question is what is Christian anything? Can you have a Christian hairdressers?

Perhaps the easier way to answer is through the medium of chips (the edible type). For example, you can go to a chippy and get a kebab yet if it says “Halal Meat” on the outside you know that means something about the preparation. This may not be a belief you as a consumer hold, but you know it was made by people who hold to a particular belief and use a certain process.

Coming back to web design, the process isn’t quite as obvious as making a kebab but there are many things you can do to ensure sites are ‘properly made’ and the process involves a large amount of trust. From passwords to translating someone’s vision into a graphical and technical system. It also often involves meeting in the home, long conversations and other things that involve investment of time and space. Most people know the premise of the 10 Commandments and related ideals such as honesty, integrity, forgiveness which are core to Christianity.

We have a number of clients who have us build websites not because they themselves are Christians but they appreciate it means a certain approach in which they can trust and have said so explicitly. Of course, much like the kebab-provider above we also serve the Christian community which is of course helpful when building a site for a church or a Christian business.

Of course a similar approach works for our Christian Print and Christian Advice services (which sometimes includes tutoring too).

How about Christian Hosting?

Obviously the computers (servers) that host your website and provide email services are just innanimate objects, incapable of religion – although I’m sure many would suggest they have a mind of their own!

Again, it comes back to service/support and the nature of the setup. You can do very simple setups where you don’t have support as opposed to decent setup and advice that listens and cares.

Perhaps the biggest difference comes from when something goes wrong and how it is sorted out. That doesn’t mean we do lots of things for free but you can be assured we wouldn’t over-charge and would be honest about the time-frames and complexity involved and do our utmost to ensure your interests are genuinely at the core.

Our View

It’s not that Christian services are necessarily more professional than others -though we work hard to ensure they are sector-leading- but that that work is done with God at the heart of those doing the work.

Perhaps you disagree (let us know), though this is how we approach the idea and hence our logo has a strapline which is ‘serving Christ with Technology’. Either way, we’re happy to talk about it but certainly won’t push Christianity on anyone – if you want to now more about why we’re so passionate about God then just ask :)
